Dr. John C. Russ is now retired from the Materials Science and Engineering Department at North Carolina State University. During a career of nearly 50 years he has used many different types of microscopes and image analysis tools to study the microstructure of materials. In the process of teaching courses and working with students, plus experience in industry, he has become recognized world-wide as an expert in image analysis, and developed a familiarity with other types of microstructures including foods, biological materials, biomedical imaging, wood and paper products, textiles, forensic imaging and so forth. He has published numerous books and papers, and continues to teach workshops, consult on imaging issues, and provide expert witness testimony.
